On June 27, 2025, a group of criminals posing as Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officers executed a brazen robbery in Karachi’s upscale PECHS Block 2, stealing over Rs130 million in cash and valuables.
The heist, captured on CCTV, has raised alarm about impersonation tactics, prompting police to arrest four suspects. Consequently, Karachi residents are demanding stricter security measures to prevent such crimes.
The robbery occurred at 3:30 AM when five suspects, two men and three women in burqas, arrived at a showroom owner’s home in a black car. One man, dressed in a near-authentic FIA uniform with a monogram, brandished a pistol to gain entry. The group swiftly accessed the bedroom safe, looting Rs130 million in cash, 20 luxury watches, a smartwatch, nine mobile phones, and two laptops. The precision of the operation suggests prior planning, as noted by police reports.
The active location services on a stolen iPhone played a crucial role in the investigation. Police tracked the device to a private hotel, where they arrested two brothers and two sisters connected to the crime. The suspects are currently in custody at the Ferozabad Police Station, and ongoing investigations focus on recovering stolen items and identifying any accomplices. CCTV footage, which clearly shows the masked robbers, is assisting in the investigation. In the meantime, the First Information Report (FIR) charges the group with armed robbery and impersonation.
The heist mirrors other recent cases of impersonation crimes, such as a fake gold deal in Karachi where a constable pretended to be a law enforcement officer. This incident reveals vulnerabilities in upscale areas like PECHS, similar to a theft case in DHA that involved Rs 50 million. Public sentiment is demanding urgent action to enhance safety.
