The Karachi Police have announced strict security arrangements across the city for New Year’s Eve. They are deploying thousands of personnel to curb aerial firing, hooliganism, and other violations. They confirmed that no area will be closed, including Sea View.
Authorities expect large crowds at Sea View, one of Karachi’s most popular recreational spots. Residents will gather to welcome the New Year. In previous years, overcrowding and aerial firing led to several untoward incidents during celebrations.
Javed Alam Odho, Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi, said law enforcement agencies had finalised comprehensive arrangements. These measures are to ensure public safety throughout the city.
“We have put strict security measures in place for New Year’s Eve,” he said. He added that the public will have access to all areas, including coastal locations.
More than 6,000 police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order, regulate traffic, and prevent illegal activities. The police chief warned that authorities will not tolerate aerial firing, one-wheeling, or any form of hooliganism.
He said Safe City surveillance cameras will help identify offenders. Police will take immediate action against violators. “Cases involving firing will be registered as attempted murder, not as aerial firing,” Odho stated, stressing zero tolerance for such acts.
Traffic police will also remain deployed at key intersections to ensure smooth vehicle flow and reduce congestion during the celebrations. Officials said the objective is to keep Karachi safe and orderly throughout the night.
Meanwhile, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, Sindh’s Home Minister, extended New Year greetings to citizens and urged them to celebrate responsibly.
In a statement, he appealed to the public to avoid aerial firing and reckless activities. He directed authorities to take firm action against offenders without discrimination. He added that foolproof security measures would remain in place until late night.
“The protection of lives and property remains the top priority of the provincial government,” the minister said. He urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and follow traffic advisories where necessary.
