The Karachi municipal authority has approved a resolution to collect toll taxes from vehicles on the city’s roads and bridges.
Mayor Karaci Murtaza Wahab shared updates on the municipal control of Denso Hall, which has been regained by the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) after previously being assigned to another party. He announced plans to convert Denso Hall into a museum, aiming for completion by August 14.
Mayor Wahab also touched upon the challenges of cultural representation, which was especially highlighted during the Dubai Expo, where he noted the negative propaganda against Pakistan. He emphasized the importance of educating the youth about Pakistan’s cultural heritage and stated that a key goal is maintaining KMC’s land ownership to promote cultural heritage.
Additionally, the meeting covered resolutions for constructing a museum in Karachi’s Bagh Ibn Qasim and the approved toll tax collection from city vehicles, emphasizing a broader strategy to enhance municipal services and cultural awareness.
Syed Uddin, from Jamaat-e-Islami, raised concerns during the meeting. He questioned the abrupt nature of the meeting and how the agenda was presented. He doubts the feasibility of implementing the toll tax without a thorough review, questioning how the mayor could endorse such a measure without fully considering its implications.
