Flooding in the Malir River has caused the closure of Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway. This has led to significant traffic disruptions throughout Karachi.
According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the closures led to gridlock at major hubs. They report that short commutes have turned into hours-long delays for residents. This includes ambulances and office-goers.
The closed causeways have redirected traffic pressure onto Jam Sadiq Bridge, Qayyumabad Chowrangi, the Expressway, Brooks Chowrangi, and Defence Signal. This has resulted in long vehicle queues. The Karachi Traffic Police reported that Korangi Road and Causeway Road are currently inaccessible due to floodwaters. This further exacerbates congestion throughout the city.
