The Karachi administration has formally extended a key traffic restriction. The ban on heavy vehicles entering the city during daytime hours has been extended by two months, effective immediately.
Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi issued a notification under Section 144. The extension is effective from Tuesday, December 23, 2025, and will remain in force until February 22, 2026. Under the regulations:
- Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the metropolis between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
- A complete ban is imposed on the route from Super Highway to Mauripur via Jinnah Avenue.
However, exemptions are granted for vehicles transporting essential commodities. These include water, oil, oxygen, medical supplies, and other vital goods. Additionally, a relaxation is provided in industrial areas for dumpers equipped with functional tracking systems.
The police are authorised to register cases against any person or vehicle found violating these orders. The ban’s primary objectives are to prevent road accidents and address severe traffic congestion within Karachi’s city limits.

This extension follows stricter action taken in November 2025. Following a fatal accident in Razzaqabad, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah announced a blanket ban on dumpers and water tankers not fitted with police-accessible tracking systems.
That policy requires owners of such vehicles to formally grant traffic police tracker access to operate on city roads, even during permitted hours.
