The Sindh government has established 77 heatwave relief centres and camps in response to a severe heatwave.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department issued a heatwave warning yesterday, forecasting extreme temperatures for southern regions.
Officials report the distribution of centres as follows: 11 in the South district, 18 in the East, six in the West, 12 in the Central, 15 in Malir, eight in Korangi, and seven in Keamari.
In the South district, Civil Lines and Garden sub-divisions host three centres: Saddar and Arambagh have two each, Gulshan-e-Iqbal four, Ferozabad two, Jamshed Quarters six, and Gulzar-e-Hijri five.
To mitigate heatwave effects, centres have been set up: four in Manghopir, two in Orangi and North Nazimabad, and four in Gulberg.
Eight centres are active in Hyderi, three in Murad Memon and two in Bin Qasim and Airport sub-divisions. Korangi and Landhi have two centres each, one in Shah Faisal and three in Model Colony.
Keamari and Mauripur each have one centre, two in Baldia and three in the SITE area.
This initiative seeks to provide relief and lessen the heatwave’s impact on residents of Karachi.
The forecast for Karachi predicts hot and humid conditions over the next three days. Daytime temperatures expected to range between 38°C and 40°C.
