Relentless rainfall continued to batter Karachi, submerging various city sectors under water for a second straight day. Surjani, North Karachi, Buffer Zone, Nagan Chowrangi, and Scheme 33 endured substantial downpours.
Persistent rainfall has led to waterlogged streets in many parts of Karachi, including Qayyumabad Chowrangi and II Chundrigar Road, forcing residents to find alternate routes. Conversely, areas like Safoora Chowrangi and Hassan Square have seen improvements in rainwater drainage. The heavy downpour has also caused extended power outages in areas such as Gulistan-e-Johar Block 8 and Jamshed Road.
Saturday night’s storm, featuring thunder and lightning, caused chaos, with rainwater entering homes and healthcare facilities. The overflow of sewage worsened the situation. Affected regions include Baldi Town, Orangi Town, and DHA. Despite predictions, the city’s preparedness was lacking, leading to traffic disruptions and submerged roads such as Sharea Faisal.
Emergency responses were notably absent as the city struggled to manage the flooding. The Gizri underpass closure and the inundation of Nagan Chowrangi and Disco Mor highlighted the severity of the situation. The mayor’s office has since initiated drainage efforts to prevent water accumulation.
The aftermath of the rain disrupted daily life, with sewage overflow complicating commutes on major roads. Electricity failures plunged several areas into darkness, emphasizing the city’s vulnerability to weather impacts. The PMD reported the highest rainfall at Sharea Faisal, followed by Malir and Surjani Town, indicating the storm’s intensity across Karachi.
