Dr. Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), warned that the “feels like” temperature in Karachi’s sea-facing areas could reach 44 degrees Celsius on Friday due to high humidity.
According to a meteorological expert, the weather in Karachi will remain hot and humid until the end of May.
“Due to the sea breezes, humidity in the air will remain high,” he explained.
This morning, Karachi’s humidity was 78%. In the evening, it will fluctuate between 35% and 45%. Westerly/southwesterly winds are likely to blow in the port city.
The temperature in Karachi today and tomorrow will fluctuate between 36°C and 38°C. Starting tomorrow, it may begin dropping by 1°C to 2°C.
The Met Office advised the public to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and recommended the judicious use of water.
“Due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere, heatwave conditions will likely develop over most parts of the country, especially Punjab and Sindh, from May 21. These conditions may convert to severe heatwave conditions from May 23 to 27,” the PMD said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Day temperatures will likely remain 4°C to 6°C above normal in Sindh and Punjab from May 21 to 23. They will be 6°C to 8°C higher from May 23 to 27.
“Extreme dry and heatwave conditions may trigger bush and forest fires in vulnerable Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Northeast Balochistan,” the Met Office mentioned.
