Karachi’s electricity consumers face another price increase as the power tariff rises by Rs10.1 per unit.
NEPRA notified that the increase is due to Fuel Charge Adjustments (FCA) from July 2023 to March 2024. Additionally, from June to September 2024, consumers in Karachi will see extra charges on their bills.
Specifically, they will pay an extra Rs2.68 per unit in June, Rs3.11 per unit in July, Rs3.22 per unit in August, and Rs1 per unit in September. However, this tariff increase exempts Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and lifeline consumers.
Previously, NEPRA approved an Rs3.3 per unit increase for DISCOs’ consumers, excluding those of K-electric. This adjustment, related to fuel charges, also spares EVCS and lifeline consumers.
Due to the recent adjustments, consumers will see higher bills starting in June. Before this, NEPRA raised electricity rates by Rs3.76 per unit for quarterly fuel adjustment. This increase affects June, July, and August this year.
Consequently, electricity bills will surge, with Rs1.90 per unit in June and Rs0.93 per unit in July and August.
