On Thursday, May 29, 2025, a high-speed dumper truck slammed into a bungalow near Defence Road in Karachi, causing significant damage to the structure’s wall, police reported. The Karachi dumper truck crash has reignited concerns about heavy vehicle safety in the port city.
According to the traffic police, the dumper truck driver, who was arrested and taken into custody, claimed the accident occurred due to brake failure. Both the driver and the cleaner sustained injuries in the collision.
The Karachi road accident is part of a troubling trend. Over the past 132 days, at least 110 people have lost their lives in Karachi due to collisions involving heavy vehicles, as reported by local authorities. High-speed dumper trucks have been a recurring factor in these fatal incidents, causing both loss of life and injuries.
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi recently mandated the installation of cameras and trackers on all heavy transport vehicles, including dumper trucks, water tankers, and oil tankers, to address the growing heavy vehicle crash crisis. The Sindh government has also implemented strict regulations, banning heavy vehicle movement between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and enforcing a 30 km/h speed limit within city limits.
The traffic safety measures in Karachi aim to reduce accidents and save lives. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report reckless driving. Authorities are continuously monitoring compliance with the new regulations to ensure safer roads.
