Sindh Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced the launch of a double-decker bus service in Karachi on the eve of the New Year, describing it as a special initiative for the city’s residents.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Memon said the service will begin on a trial basis and operate on a limited scale. In the initial phase, the double-decker buses will operate along the Sharea Faisal-Malir corridor.
The transport minister confirmed that passengers will pay the same fare as the existing People’s Bus Service, ensuring affordability and consistency across public transport options.

Memon said he has discussed plans to expand the double-decker service with Syed Murad Ali Shah, adding that more buses will be introduced once the trial phase concludes successfully. He noted that double-decker buses help maximise road space and can significantly reduce traffic congestion in a densely populated city like Karachi.
The minister also announced a major step toward integration of the city’s rapid transit network. Passengers will now be able to travel on both the Orange Line and Green Line BRT services using a single card, making Karachi the first city in Pakistan to operate multiple BRT lines under a unified ticketing system.

Addressing other transport projects, Memon acknowledged delays in the Red Line BRT due to administrative and technical issues. He said the chief minister has resolved those hurdles and that work on the project has now accelerated.
The Sindh government, he added, remains committed to improving urban mobility and providing reliable, affordable, and modern transport facilities to Karachi’s growing population.
