Kanye West’s Yeezy brand sparked controversy on Monday morning when its website, Yeezy.com, was found selling a $20 swastika T-shirt.
The T-shirt marked “HH-01” was posted without a description or additional information. Shortly after the T-shirt was available on the site, the website went offline, displaying a blank page that stated: “This store is unavailable.”
The reason for the website’s closure remains unclear. However, the incident comes amid a series of antisemitic remarks made by Kanye West on social media, including posts praising Adolf Hitler and declaring, “I’m a Nazi.”
The appearance of the swastika T-shirt contradicted a statement West made on X (formerly Twitter) just days earlier. On Saturday, he posted, “I would never sell a swastika tee because people could be physically harmed wearing it … I love my fans and supporters.” Despite this claim, the controversial item was sold on his brand’s website shortly afterwards.
Kanye West’s Antisemitic Rants
The incident adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding Kanye West, who has faced widespread criticism for his recent antisemitic remarks. In a series of posts on X, West made inflammatory statements, including calling Jewish people “untrustworthy” and expressing admiration for Hitler. These comments have led to significant backlash, with many brands and collaborators cutting ties with the rapper and his Yeezy brand.
The sale of the swastika T-shirt has further fueled public outrage, with many condemning the move as insensitive and offensive. The swift shutdown of the Yeezy website suggests that the brand may be attempting to distance itself from the controversy, though no official statement has been released.
