A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable at Chandigarh Airport slapped newly-elected MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut.
Kangana Ranaut, who recently won a parliamentary seat from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, was on her way to Delhi when she became involved in a controversial incident. It is alleged that her previous comments, which were perceived as disrespectful towards farmers, triggered the incident.
Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF constable implicated in the incident, has been suspended pending an investigation, and an FIR has been registered. The confrontation reportedly occurred because Ranaut had made comments that were perceived as disrespectful during the lengthy farmers’ protests over agricultural laws and their demands in 2020-21.
Ranaut, surrounded by security, was en route to a security checkpoint when the alleged incident was captured on mobile footage. The constable is said to have waited for Ranaut to pass before approaching and striking her from the side.
Post-incident, Ranaut expressed her safety but voiced concerns about the growing threat of terrorism in Punjab, linking it to broader regional tensions. She detailed the event on social media, stating that the guard hit her while exclaiming her support for farmers.
The incident has reignited discussions about Ranaut’s polarizing statements during the farmers’ protest, specifically her derogatory comment about a protester being bribable for “Rs 100,” which she later deleted after widespread backlash.
The altercation adds to a series of controversies involving Ranaut, including previous confrontations during her election campaign and her provocative responses to international commentary on the farmers’ protests. The government repealed the contentious farm laws in late 2021 following prolonged demonstrations and significant public pressure.
