Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she is considering a Kamala Harris 2028 presidential run, signalling that another White House campaign remains possible after her 2024 defeat.
Speaking on Friday at a National Action Network meeting in New York City, Harris responded directly when Reverend Al Sharpton asked whether she planned to run again. “I might, I might. I’m thinking about it, I’m thinking about it,” she said as the crowd cheered.
Harris said she would weigh any future campaign based on who could do the best job as president for the American people in 2028.
Her comments quickly put fresh attention on her political future. They also added her name to the growing conversation around possible Democratic contenders for the next presidential election.

Harris Revisits Presidential Ambitions After 2024 Loss
Harris served as vice president under President Joe Biden and became the Democratic Party’s nominee for president in 2024. However, she lost that race to Donald Trump, who won both the popular vote and the Electoral College.
Before serving in the White House, Harris was a U.S. senator and attorney general of California. She had also made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.
A potential 2028 bid may not be straightforward; polling has shown some voters want new Democratic leadership after Harris’ loss to Trump.
That sentiment could shape the party’s next primary contest, especially as Democrats begin to assess who can rebuild momentum ahead of the next election cycle.
The National Action Network convention featured several other Democrats often mentioned as possible future contenders. Among them were Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
Their presence highlighted how early the conversation around the 2028 race has already begun, even as Harris weighs whether to step back into the national contest.
