K-Electric has officially inaugurated Karachi’s first 500 kV grid station, marking a significant milestone in the city’s energy sector that has been decades in the making.
The new grid guarantees the delivery of cost-effective electricity to Karachi’s citizens, with power sourced from the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) situated at Paradise Point.
Completed in a rapid 22 months, the KKI grid establishes a crucial transmission connection between the National Grid and K-Electric’s network, enhancing energy security for local industries and the southern regions of Pakistan.
Moonis Alvi, CEO of K-Electric, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of various stakeholders, including the Government of Pakistan, the Government of Sindh, NEPRA, NPCC, NTDC, PAEC, Siemens, and NESPAK. He celebrated this accomplishment, stating, “Alhamdulillah, this is another historic moment for K-Electric and Karachi. The grid station will enable the city to supply affordable electricity.”
He also commended all involved parties for rapidly completing Karachi’s inaugural 500 kV grid station since the foundation stone was laid in December 2022.
