Pakistan’s former Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jyoti Maurya faces renewed scrutiny as her estranged husband, Alok Maurya, petitions the Allahabad High Court for alimony. The case, which exploded into public view in 2023, involves allegations of infidelity, financial support, and a murder plot.
Alok, a sanitation worker in Uttar Pradesh’s Panchayati Raj Department, claims that he funded Jyoti’s education, which contributed to her success in the 2015 UPPCS, where she ranked 16th. He accuses her of leaving him for Home Guard Commandant Manish Dubey and plotting his murder, citing WhatsApp chats and a bribe diary. Jyoti denies these claims, asserting Alok misrepresented his job as a Gram Panchayat officer when he was a sweeper.
The Tribune India has reported that the Azamgarh Family Court dismissed Alok’s initial plea in January 2025; the High Court then issued a notice to Jyoti, scheduling the next hearing for August 8, 2025. Jyoti seeks divorce, stating public narratives show only one side. The controversy has spawned viral Bhojpuri songs, such as “Bewafa SDM Jyoti Maurya,” which have amassed millions of views and spawned memes under the hashtag “Jyoti Maurya Bewafaa Hai.”
Alok Maurya claims he financially supported Jyoti’s studies prior to her appointment as SDM in Bareilly. He claims she abandoned him post-success and began an affair with Dubey. Alok filed a complaint at Dhoomanganj Police Station in Prayagraj, accusing the pair of threats to his life.
Jyoti counters that Alok’s family deceived her about his employment. Her father supports this, labelling them dishonest. Jyoti filed an IT Act complaint, claiming that manipulated chats were leaked without consent.
The Family Court rejected Alok’s alimony request in January 2025. Alok now appeals to the High Court, citing hardship and health issues. The court seeks Jyoti’s response by August 8, 2025.
Jyoti maintains innocence: “Only one side of the story is being portrayed publicly. I will present my case in court.” The saga trended as “Jyoti Maurya Bewafaa Hai,” inspiring songs mocking her alleged betrayal. These tracks gained millions of views, fueling public discourse on marriage, success, and gender roles.
