The Jurickson Profar 162-game ban has been confirmed after the Atlanta Braves outfielder tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time. As a result, he is expected to miss the entire 2026 MLB season.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the second violation automatically triggers a full-season suspension under Major League Baseball (MLB) rules.
Profar, 33, previously tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on March 31, 2025. hCG is a banned substance that can increase testosterone levels in men.
Following that test, he received an 80-game suspension and was ruled out of the postseason. That season, the Braves failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in eight years, with Profar’s absence widely noted.
Now, after a second positive result, MLB’s disciplinary policy mandates a 162-game suspension — equivalent to a full regular season.
In addition to missing the entire 2026 campaign, Profar will forfeit his $15 million salary for the season.
The veteran outfielder had one year remaining on a three-year, $42 million contract he signed with Atlanta following a strong 2024 season with the San Diego Padres.
During that 2024 campaign, he earned an All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger Award, reinforcing his status as a key contributor before joining the Braves.
The suspension also affects his international prospects. According to reports, Profar will be ineligible to participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, where he had been expected to represent the Netherlands.
This development not only impacts the Braves’ roster planning but also raises questions about Profar’s future in MLB after serving the ban.
For now, the focus remains on enforcing MLB’s drug policy and the consequences associated with repeat violations.
