Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl senior leader Maulana Sultan has died after sustaining critical injuries in a remote-controlled blast in South Waziristan, police confirmed on Saturday.
According to officials, Maulana Sultan was injured on Friday when an explosive device detonated near a madrassa in the market area of Wana. He remained in critical condition and later succumbed to his wounds.
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed deep grief over the death. He described Maulana Sultan’s killing as martyrdom and demanded an immediate and transparent investigation.

Fazlur Rehman urged authorities to identify and punish those responsible. He also offered condolences to the bereaved family, party workers, local residents, and students of the deceased. He prayed for patience for the family and peace for the departed soul.
The JUI-F leader raised serious concerns over the rising number of militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He said continued violence has cost the lives of civilians and security personnel alike.
Security analysts note a sharp rise in attacks in KP since 2021. A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies stated that fatalities from terrorist incidents in KP increased from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025. This marks a rise of over 40 per cent in one year.
