Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), has rejected the recent electoral outcomes of results.
In a notable gesture, he has invited Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), to join forces on the parliamentary opposition benches.
During a press briefing in Islamabad, Fazl articulated his doubts regarding the fairness of the electoral process, pointing fingers at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for its purportedly questionable role. “Our central committee, having deliberated upon the election results, unanimously finds them unacceptable, underscoring our reservations about the ECP’s conduct,” Fazl stated, confirming JUI-F’s intention to participate in parliamentary sessions albeit with reservations.
He attributed the alleged election manipulation to “anti-Islamic forces”. He underscored JUI-F’s dedication to fostering robust ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a stance reportedly unappreciated by the United States and Israel. “As an ideological entity, JUI-F remains steadfast in its resolve not to yield on national matters, continuing our advocacy for broader objectives,” Fazl asserted, casting doubts on the ECP’s impartiality from the outset.
Fazl further alleged that the elections were marred by corruption, intimidation of JUI-F candidates and supporters, and police coercion, which, according to him, compromised the electoral environment.
Addressing potential reconciliation with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he indicated openness to dialogue, contingent on a shift in PTI’s perspective. Fazl announced plans to spearhead a nationwide protest movement to secure acknowledgement and action on their grievances, marking a significant escalation in political activism post-election.
