Joshua Bregmen shattered the Guinness World Record by performing the highest-altitude ski-base jump from a cliff in the Himalayas, jumping 18,753 feet.
The British adventurer, an ardent ski-base jumper, outstripped the former record by over 4,000 feet, a feat previously held by Matthias Giraud since 2019.
Bregmen, who lives a nomadic lifestyle in his van, dedicated two weeks to preparing for this extraordinary challenge with his team. Their preparation included rigorous hiking, skiing to the launch site, and camping at extreme altitudes while ensuring the jump path was clear of debris. This ambitious endeavour aimed to set a record and support a charitable cause, raising awareness and funds for combating human trafficking in Nepal.
Despite encountering challenging conditions such as rocky slopes and oxygen scarcity, which escalated the physical demands of the attempt, the team persevered. They meticulously prepared the launch site by relocating boulders and enhancing the snowy runway, overcoming the harsh environmental challenges.
Josh’s record-setting jump, performed amid minimal snow conditions and the majestic backdrop of Mount Everest, encapsulated a sporting achievement and a profound personal triumph. “The plan was for elegant skiing off the cliff, but reality gave us a rocky, rudimentary runway,” Josh recounted to Guinness World Records. Despite the exhaustion and thin air, the thrill of the jump, with Everest looming in the distance, marked a momentous achievement in both his career and the annals of adventure sports.
