England pacer Jofra Archer will not participate in next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as he focuses on managing his workload in preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Jofra Archer’s decision follows a recommendation from the England Cricket Board (ECB) to withdraw from the tournament, aiming to optimize his physical readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Archer has been dealing with a recurring stress fracture in his elbow, sidelining him from active play. Despite being included in England’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad as a travelling reserve, he experienced elbow pain during training in Mumbai and had to return home prematurely. The ECB has advised Archer not to participate in the IPL 2024 auction as part of his recovery and workload management strategy.
The 28-year-old fast bowler, who has a two-year central contract with the ECB, is not featuring in the ODI or T20I series against West Indies. Archer has played 49 matches for England across all three formats throughout his career, achieving 102 wickets and scoring 206 runs.
