Jill Sobule, the acclaimed singer-songwriter behind the 1995 hit I Kissed a Girl, tragically lost her life in a house fire in Woodbury, Minnesota, on Thursday.

Soulé left a lasting legacy as a musical innovator and advocate for human rights. Her publicist, David Elkin, confirmed her passing via email, and authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.

Sobule captivated audiences for over three decades, releasing 12 albums that explored themes like the death penalty, anorexia, and LGBTQ+ rights. Her breakout tracks, Supermodel from the Clueless soundtrack and I Kissed a Girl, which soared to the Billboard Top 20, established her as a cultural icon. The music world will deeply miss her vibrant energy.”

Fans will gather in Denver, replacing a planned performance with a heartfelt event to share stories and songs in Sobule’s honour. Her team plans a formal memorial for this summer.
