Former Jhang District Bar Association president Mehr Muhammad Munir Sadhana was assassinated in a targeted shooting on Gojra Road on Saturday morning. The attack also claimed the lives of his driver, Mumtaz Ahmad, and a passer-by named Mushtaq. A local shopkeeper sustained injuries.
According to Jhang Satellite Town police, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on the lawyer’s car. The attackers successfully fled the scene after the shooting.
The incident occurred near Bilqees Hospital while Munir Sadhana was en route to the Jhang District Courts Complex. Officials reported that driver Mumtaz Ahmad died instantly from his wounds. Gunfire also critically injured Sadhana, a shopkeeper, and the passer-by, Mushtaq.
All three wounded individuals were transported to Jhang District Headquarters Hospital. Sadly, both lawyer Sadhana and passer-by Mushtaq succumbed to their injuries after arriving at the medical facility.
The lawyer was a known close aide of former federal interior minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. Hayat was present at the hospital to receive the body of his friend alongside other grieving relatives.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhinder and District Police Officer Bilal Kiani also visited the site. News of the assassination prompted lawyers at the district courts to immediately announce a strike.
In an official press release, District Bar Association President Mehr Muhammad Fareed Nawaz Naul announced three working days of mourning. He strongly demanded the immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
