Jeff Bezos has reclaimed his title as the world’s wealthiest individual, overtaking Elon Musk in the latest rankings on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As the founder of Amazon, Bezos’s fortune reached $200 billion, edging out Musk’s $198 billion.
Notably, over the last year, Musk experienced a $31 billion decline in net worth, while Bezos’s wealth grew by $23 billion. This shift occurred as Tesla shares dropped over 7% on Monday, as reported by CNN.
Musk had briefly secured the position of the wealthiest person in May 2023, surpassing Bernard Arnault, the CEO of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), a global leader in luxury goods. The competition among these centibillionaires, including Arnault, whose wealth was buoyed by a luxury sales boom, highlights the volatile nature of their rankings.
A significant event earlier this year was a Delaware court’s dismissal of Musk’s $50 billion pay package from 2018, contributing to Tesla’s share value declining by 24% year-to-date.
The position of the richest individual fluctuates with market dynamics, although Musk and Arnault remain among the wealthiest globally. An Oxfam report revealed that since 2020, the total net worth of the five richest people has surged by 114%, or $869 billion, adjusting for inflation.
