Former Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie has initiated legal action against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), claiming over $5 million in unpaid dues from his 2024 tenure, including bonuses for a Test series win against England and an ODI series victory in Australia.
The Current reported that the dispute has escalated to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for mediation, though the ICC’s jurisdiction remains unclear.
The PCB in a statement refutes Gillespie’s allegations, asserting he breached his contract by resigning in December 2024 without serving a mandatory four-month notice period. “The contract clearly stated a notice period for both parties,” a PCB spokesperson told Cricket Pakistan, claiming Gillespie owes the board four months’ salary. The PCB denies any outstanding payments and is exploring legal options.

Tensions began in October 2024 when Gillespie was removed from the selection panel, reducing his role to a “matchday strategist.” The dismissal of his assistant, Tim Nielsen, without consultation prompted Gillespie’s resignation, which he called a move to undermine his authority.
The PCB is now searching for a new head coach. Interim coach Aaqib Javed was not retained after poor results.
