Pakistan Railways suspended the Jaffar Express service between Quetta and Peshawar for three days starting September 24, 2025. The suspension follows a blast near Quetta that damaged the railway tracks. It caused the derailment of the train’s engine and five coaches. Several passengers were injured, officials confirmed.
The explosion occurred between Degari Cross Speedent and Sariab Railway Stations about 30 to 45 minutes before the Peshawar-bound train arrived. The blast severely damaged the tracks, leading to the derailment. As a result, both the Jaffer Express and the Bolan Express scheduled for September 24 were cancelled. Full refunds were issued to passengers.

Relief and repair operations began immediately. Heavy machinery was deployed to clear debris. Efforts were made to realign coaches and repair the damaged track. Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi ordered an inquiry on September 23 and demanded a report within 24 hours to investigate the cause of the blast.
Restoration of services depends on the completion of track repairs. The three-day suspension affects many travellers, but refund measures ease some of the inconvenience. Authorities are working diligently to resume train operations as soon as possible.
The derailment underscores ongoing safety challenges within Pakistan’s rail network. The inquiry’s findings may lead to improved infrastructure and enhanced passenger safety measures. Ensuring reliable and secure railway transport remains a top priority.
