Jada Pinkett-Smith has opened up about her relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur, clarifying that, while they never became romantically involved, Tupac did propose to her during his incarceration at Rikers Island in New York.
On her press tour for her latest book, “Worthy,” Pinkett-Smith, 52, shared insights about her personal life. This comes shortly after her revelation that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separately since 2016, though they still share the same household.
Understanding Their Unique Bond
Addressing her bond with Tupac, Pinkett-Smith told RollingOut, “The chemistry was purely based on a deep friendship and trust. I want to emphasize that it wasn’t romantic. As I’ve mentioned in my book, our relationship had complex moments. It’s hard to convey the multifaceted nature of it.”
Recent episodes of her show, Red Table Talk, spotlighted her relationship with Will, especially following her disclosure of an “entanglement” with singer August Alsina, a close acquaintance of their son, Jaden Smith.
Anticipated Revelations in “Worthy”
The subject of Tupac has frequently been broached since the Red Table Talk episode in July 2020. An upcoming episode of the All The Smoke podcast, scheduled for next Thursday, will feature Pinkett-Smith sharing the story of Tupac’s marriage proposal during his jail time. She touched upon Tupac’s intentions, suggesting he desired companionship during his incarceration, but held back on giving away more details, hinting that these might be found in her book.
