Israeli forces successfully recovered the bodies of five hostages from the Gaza Strip following their capture during the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel.
The military identified the individuals as civilian Maya Goren and soldiers Ravid Aryeh Katz, Oren Goldin, Tomer Ahimas, and Kiril Brodski, whose bodies were retrieved on Wednesday from Khan Yunis.
The tragic events of October 7 led to the deaths of these four soldiers during the Hamas-initiated assault. Maya Goren, who was abducted that same day, was later declared deceased in December by military officials.
The recovery operation was confirmed by separate statements from the Israeli kibbutzim Nir Oz and Nir Yitzhak, which announced the return of Goren and Goldin’s bodies, respectively.
Kibbutz Nir Oz relayed to the family of Maya Goren that her body had been recovered in a recent military operation, with further details to follow. Likewise, Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak reported the retrieval of Oren Goldin’s body, noting his role in the Kibbutz emergency team and his death during the initial attack.
This incident was part of a larger conflict that day, which resulted in the tragic loss of 1,197 lives, mostly civilians, and the capture of 251 hostages by Hamas militants, with 111 remaining, including 39 confirmed deceased.
In response, Israel’s military actions in Gaza have resulted in significant casualties, with at least 39,145 deaths, also predominantly civilians, as reported by the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.
