The White House, U.S. President Joe Biden disclosed that Israel has proposed a comprehensive three-phase plan to cease hostilities in Gaza.
Israel’s new proposal serves as a roadmap toward ending the ongoing conflict with Hamas and outlines several critical steps to reduce tensions and foster peace in the region.
President Biden detailed the components of the Israeli proposal during his speech, emphasizing its main elements, which include a complete ceasefire. This cessation of military activities is to be coupled with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas within Gaza, signifying a substantial step back in military engagement in the territory.
Additionally, the proposal includes the release of several hostages currently held in Gaza. These individuals notably include women, the elderly, and the wounded, whose release would be exchanged for the freedom of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners currently held by Israel.
As President Biden explained, Israel’s proposal represents a significant shift towards de-escalation. It demonstrates a willingness to negotiate terms that could lead to sustained peace between the opposing sides. The proposal addresses immediate security concerns and aims to lay the groundwork for longer-term peace efforts by fostering goodwill and trust through exchanging prisoners and hostages.
