A senior police officer in Islamabad has died in a tragic incident. SP Adeel Akbar, who was stationed in the capital’s high-security Red Zone, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday.
The officer was on duty near a private hotel when the incident occurred. He was rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) but succumbed to his injuries. Senior police officials, including IG Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, immediately went to the hospital after being informed. Doctors at PIMS confirmed the officer’s death.
A high-level investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances. Forensic samples have been taken from the body for analysis. Evidence from the scene, including the officer’s blood-stained uniform and his government-issued pistol, has been secured. The pistol’s fingerprints will be verified through NADRA.

Officials who were present at the scene have also been taken into custody for questioning as part of the standard procedure. SP Adeel Akbar was a respected officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP). He had recently taken charge as the SP for the Industrial Area.
He was highly educated, holding an MPhil in Governance and Public Policy from the National Defence University (NDU). He previously served in various districts of Balochistan.

Colleagues described him as a professional, humble, and committed officer. His sudden death has caused deep sadness within the Islamabad police and the wider law enforcement community.
His funeral prayers were held on Thursday night. His body was then transported to his ancestral village for burial.
