The Islamabad High Court, led by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, has issued a detailed order on a petition challenging the Election Amendment Ordinance and Election Commission proceedings.
The three PTI candidates, Shoaib Shaheen, Ali Bukhari, and Aamir Mughal from Islamabad, filed the petition to secure immediate relief; however, after the petition was rejected, the Election Commission can continue its proceedings.
IHC issued notices that have been dispatched for a hearing on June 11 concerning applications to halt the Election Commission’s actions. Additionally, the court has extended notices to the Attorney General, which were also set for June 11.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court has issued a detailed three-page order addressing three separate applications filed by Shoaib Shaheen, Ali Bukhari, and Aamir Mughal. These petitioners contest Section 151 of the Election Act, the pertinent ordinance, and a specific order from the Election Commission dated June 4.
The development added another twist to the election petitions for the three constituencies within the federal capital, suggesting a strong possibility of forming a new tribunal. Chief Justice Aamir Farooq has dismissed the PTI candidates’ requests for an immediate stop to the Election Commission’s proceedings.
The forthcoming June 11 proceedings involving multiple parties, including the Attorney General, will determine whether a new tribunal should be established, potentially rendering the tribunal under Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri ineffective.
