The Islamabad High Court has set September 19 as the date to hear a contempt of court case concerning a malicious campaign against Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.
The hearing will be conducted by a full court bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq. Before the summer vacations, the court had initiated action by issuing notices through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to Gharida Farooqi, Hassan Ayub, and Ammar Solangi, who are alleged to be involved in the campaign.
Additionally, the court has summoned reports from the Director-General of the FIA, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The case has garnered significant attention, especially after the full court bench of the Islamabad High Court voiced significant displeasure with the government’s handling of the campaign against Justice Jahangiri during a session just two days before the summer break.
Highlighting the gravity of the matter, the bench instructed the Registrar’s Office to schedule the hearing immediately following the vacations. However, there has been a slight delay, with the case set for the second week after the vacation instead of the first, as originally directed by the court. This development underscores the ongoing tension and the high stakes in ensuring judicial integrity and addressing alleged defamatory actions against court officials.
