Islamabad, Pakistan’s federal capital, is experiencing what locals describe as the densest fog in years, accompanied by a sharp temperature drop.
The city became enveloped in fog starting from 9 pm on Monday and continuing until 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
AccuWeather recorded a drastic temperature drop to 2 degrees Celsius at approximately 6:05 a.m. on January 23, 2024. Remarkably, the temperature swiftly rose to 5 degrees by 6:22 a.m.
AccuWeather’s data indicates that Islamabad’s Air Quality Index (AQI) currently falls in the ‘Dangerous’ category. The platform also forecasts possible rainfall on the night of January 25, Thursday.
The fog and cold have notably affected residents, especially those travelling at night. Motorcyclists face severe challenges due to the cold and reduced visibility troubles all commuters. Unlike Lahore and other cities in Punjab, the city is not accustomed to such foggy conditions.
A longtime resident of Islamabad for over a decade expressed surprise at the severity of the fog, a rarity in the area. In light of these conditions, citizens are urged to be cautious when travelling and to stay informed about weather updates and safety advisories.
