A moderate earthquake struck Islamabad on Monday, causing tremors across several northern regions. Pakistan’s seismic monitoring centre recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.8.
According to officials, the quake originated at a depth of around 10 kilometres, which increased the intensity of shaking felt on the surface. Residents in many parts of Islamabad reported brief but noticeable tremors.

The earthquake was also felt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Swat region, as well as in Hunza in Gilgit-Baltistan. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were received.
Data from the United States Geological Survey placed the earthquake at a slightly higher magnitude of 5.9. The USGS said the epicentre was located about 50 kilometres north-northwest of Barishal, at a depth of 35 kilometres.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged citizens to remain calm while following standard safety precautions in case of aftershocks.
