On Wednesday, an Islamabad court ordered former information minister Fawad Chaudhry and his guarantors to appear regarding a sedition case. The case accuses the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader of inciting organizations to revolt.
Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Supra reviewed the case and received the compliance report for Fawad’s summons. However, the court was displeased with the police officer who submitted the report, questioning the quality of the compliance.
The court criticized the method of summons compliance, highlighting that the report was signed, the identity card number was provided, and a witness was available, asking the officer how he would educate his juniors about such procedures.
The judge asked if the compliance officer had contacted Fawad. The officer replied that the former PTI leader’s phone was switched off.
As a result, the court instructed the officer to attempt another call and inform Fawad, who is currently affiliated with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, about his pending case. The officer was also directed to inquire why Fawad had not attended court.
Finally, the court issued summoning notices to be sent to Fawad’s residences in Lahore and Islamabad and postponed the hearing until June 17.
