US YouTuber IShowSpeed visited Lagos on Wednesday as part of his Africa tour, celebrating his 21st birthday the same day his YouTube channel crossed 50 million subscribers.
The YouTube and Twitch star launched his African journey on December 29 and has since travelled through around 15 countries, drawing large crowds at nearly every stop. His growing influence has earned him major recognition, with Rolling Stone naming him the Most Influential Creator of 2025, while Forbes estimates his net worth at $20 million.
IShowSpeed began his Lagos visit at the busy Balogun Market in Lagos Island, where dense crowds surrounded him and repeatedly asked for money. Surrounded by bodyguards, he appeared startled by the attention and left the market shortly after arriving.
He later visited Freedom Park, a historic site built on the grounds of a former prison. There, he sampled jollof rice for the first time and reacted to its spicy kick before continuing his tour across the city. His next stop was the iconic Nike Art Gallery, a popular destination for visiting celebrities and senior political figures.
I’ve seen many videos from iShowSpeed’s visit to Lagos and all I can say is this country needs serious formatting.
People just begging for money everywhere, everything about us here is money.

Local content creators praised the visit for highlighting Nigerian culture. Stephen Oluwafisayomi, a 24-year-old YouTuber known as Stevosky, said IShowSpeed was helping showcase Africa’s diversity, traditions, and food to a wider audience. He added that the influencer wants Americans to view Africa as a destination worth visiting.
At around 6:00 pm local time, IShowSpeed paused his security convoy by the roadside to watch his subscriber count hit 50 million. He marked the moment by celebrating with a cake, pushing his face into it as fans cheered.
