Is Tenacious D parting ways after a controversial Trump joke? Jack Black recently addressed the rumours of the band’s potential breakup.
Following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, a joke made by Kyle Gass of Tenacious D during a concert in Sydney sparked significant backlash. The incident occurred just a day after the attempt while Gass was celebrating his 64th birthday on stage. His birthday wish involving Trump led to widespread criticism.
Jack Black, caught off guard by his bandmate’s comment, later distanced himself from the joke. In response to the fallout, Black announced the cancellation of their ongoing tour and hinted at a possible hiatus for Tenacious D. However, at a recent ‘Borderlands’ movie premiere, while sporting the iconic Pick of Destiny necklace, Black clarified the band’s status to Variety. He emphasized that Tenacious D is not disbanding but merely taking a break.
Reflecting on the significance of the band and his relationship with Gass, Black highlighted the deep connection and the need for a pause. “We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break sometimes. And we’ll be back. Yeah, we’re friends. That hasn’t changed. These things take time sometimes… And we’ll be back when it feels right. Look what I wore today: I wore the Pick of Destiny. I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favourite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, my baby,” Black stated.
