A German source told Reuters that on June 20, 2025, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain will hold critical nuclear talks with Iran’s foreign minister in Geneva, following a meeting with EU diplomat Kaja Kallas.
The Iran nuclear talks 2025, coordinated with the U.S., come as Israel and Iran exchanged missile strikes for a sixth day on June 18, intensifying regional tensions, per The New York Times.
The Geneva talks aim to secure Iran’s commitment to a civilian-only nuclear program, per Newsweek. The ministers will first convene with Kallas at the German consulate to align strategies before engaging Iran, per Reuters. The U.S., while not attending, supports the effort after Iran cancelled a scheduled June 15 Oman meeting due to Israeli strikes, per CBS News. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasised diplomacy but prioritised countering Israel’s aggression, per Reuters.

Israel-Iran Conflict Escalation
On June 18, Israel targeted 40 Iranian military sites, which included missile installations and a university linked to the Revolutionary Guards. In response, Iran launched two missile barrages at Tel Aviv. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan characterised Iran’s retaliation as “legitimate self-defence” and accused Israel of committing “state terrorism,” while offering Turkey’s assistance as a mediator. Additionally, Iran called on its neighbours to address border infiltrations after Israel’s Mossad utilised internal agents to carry out drone attacks.
Since June 12, Israel has conducted strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, including Natanz, as well as military facilities, resulting in the deaths of over 224 people, primarily civilians. In response, Iran launched retaliatory missiles that killed 23 people in Israel. These missile exchanges disrupted U.S.-Iran talks, with Trump demanding Iran’s “unconditional surrender.” Additionally, the defence cooperation between Turkey and Iran, along with the diplomatic efforts of Kaja Kallas, indicates Europe’s push to de-escalate the situation.
The Iran nuclear talks 2025 in Geneva, set against Israel-Iran missile strikes, represent a critical diplomatic push to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions. With Erdogan’s Iran defence and Kaja Kallas’ diplomacy, Europe seeks to avert a broader war, drawing global attention to Middle East stability in 2025.
