Iran launched an attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, targeting a key U.S. military asset. On June 23, 2025, a missile struck a geodesic dome that housed secure communications equipment. This attack came in response to recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Although the damage was minimal, the incident underscores the escalating tensions between the two countries.

Iran fired ballistic missiles at Al Udeid Air Base near Doha, directly striking a radome housing a $15 million modernised enterprise terminal installed in 2016. Satellite imagery from Planet Labs PBC showed the dome remained intact just hours before the attack. By June 25, the radome had been destroyed, while a nearby building sustained only minor damage.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed the strike. He noted minimal impact on equipment. The base, home to US Central Command’s forward headquarters, remains fully operational. 6 Qatar declined to comment.

Satellite images suggest Iran’s missile strike on US-run Al Udeid Base in Qatar destroyed a communication antenna, leaving a blackened crater and damage to a nearby hangar.

The strike responded to the US bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran signalled its plan, allowing the US and Qatari defences to prepare. President Trump reported 14 missiles fired, with 13 intercepted.

The US evacuated aircraft beforehand, reducing damage. The attack briefly disrupted Middle East air travel but avoided broader conflict. Trump brokered a ceasefire, ending the 12-day Iran-Israel war.

Trump described Iran’s response as “very weak.” He expressed gratitude to Tehran for the early warning, which helped prevent casualties. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have made a “destructive” hit. An adviser to Ayatollah Khamenei suggested that communications had been interrupted. Iran International was the first to report the damage to the dome, using various satellite images. The White House did not provide any additional comments.

The strike targeted a significant U.S. asset. Al Udeid Air Base plays a vital role in supporting regional security missions. Iran’s restrained retaliation helped avoid escalation and aligned with the existing ceasefire. Analysts observe that this attack tests the strength of U.S.-Qatar alliances and also demonstrates Iran’s missile capabilities. Moving forward, diplomacy will be crucial in preventing further conflicts.
