The iPhone 17 standard models are rumoured to feature high refresh rate displays, a technology currently exclusive to Apple’s high-end Pro series.
Although the iPhone 16 series has been in stores for only three months, speculation about next year’s lineup has already started. A recent leak from China suggests that the 2025 iPhone models will all include advanced ProMotion technology, marking the first time this feature is extended across the entire range.
Digital Chat Station, a notable tipster, shared on Weibo that the standard versions of the iPhone 17 series are expected to have a 120Hz display. This would be the first such upgrade in the standard models, with the iPhone 17 and potentially a new iPhone 17 Slim (or Air) featuring these high-refresh-rate screens next year.

This isn’t the first hint of 120Hz ProMotion displays for all iPhone 17 models. Earlier, Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants predicted that both Pro and non-Pro models would incorporate this feature. Additionally, a November report by ETNews, citing industry sources, stated that the iPhone 17 lineup would use LTPO screens supplied by Samsung and LG.
Apple typically introduces hardware innovations in its Pro models before integrating them into the standard versions in subsequent years. This contrasts with many Android manufacturers, who have offered 120Hz displays for some time.

Since 2021, Apple has equipped its Pro iPhone models with 120Hz screens, branded as ProMotion displays. These screens adapt their refresh rates to provide smoother app animations and scrolling, enhancing the user experience. The anticipated inclusion of ProMotion technology in the iPhone 17 and the rumoured iPhone 17 Slim aims to diminish the distinction between the standard and Pro models, levelling the playing field within Apple’s offerings.
