Forbes reported that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series, scheduled for launch in September 2025, will introduce the iPhone 17 Air, an impressively thin model measuring just 5.5mm, which is set to replace the underperforming Plus variant.
Tipster Sonny Dickson on X shared leaked dummy units showcasing the Air’s sleek design alongside the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, highlighting its slim profile compared to the thicker Pro models.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests the iPhone 17 Air, priced around $900, could outperform the iPhone mini and appeal to buyers seeking a mid-range, stylish device. “The Air could set the stage for thinner iPhone Pros and foldable devices,” Gurman notes, citing its success in Apple’s MacBook and iPad lines. The Air features a 6.6-inch display, a single 48mp rear camera, and the A19 chip, but its slim chassis may compromise battery life and audio.

The leaks reveal the Air lacks a physical SIM tray, indicating a global eSIM-only approach, a first for iPhones outside the US. The Camera Control button, introduced in the iPhone 16 series, appears on all models, contrary to earlier rumours. However, the Air’s bottom edge shows fewer speaker holes, suggesting reduced audio capability to maintain its thin design. The Pro and Pro Max retain SIM trays for non-US markets, ensuring dual versions of the lineup.
