As Apple’s WWDC 2025 kicks off on June 9, 2025, leaks suggest iOS 26 will debut a “Liquid Glass” user interface (UI), featuring transparent and glossy effects across toolbars, in-app surfaces, and controls.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, this redesign aligns with Apple’s vision for a cohesive UI inspired by visionOS, setting the stage for a major iPhone overhaul in 2027.

Gurman reports that iOS 26 will depart from Apple’s flat design and introduce a sheen reminiscent of glass surfaces. This aligns with earlier leaks from MacRumors, hinting at UI consistency across Apple’s operating systems, including macOS and watchOS. The transparent effects enhance visual dynamics, offering a sleek, immersive experience on iPhones and iPads.

The strategic update prepares users for the 2027 iPhone, “Glasswing.” Marking the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, this all-glass device is rumoured to feature curved edges, slim bezels, and an under-display camera, eliminating the notch, per The Verge. The “Liquid Glass” UI complements this futuristic design, ensuring a seamless transition.
While iOS 26 emphasises aesthetics, Apple lags in deploying promised Apple Intelligence features, such as an advanced Siri, announced at WWDC 2024. Gurman notes WWDC 2025 will prioritise making iOS “more capable and sleek” over fast-tracking AI, addressing delays in competing with rivals like Google and OpenAI. WWDC 2025, held in Cupertino, will likely confirm iOS 26’s features and provide developer betas.
