This year, a Scottish council, Inverclyde, has seen 17 sets of twins begin primary school, adding to the region’s already notable 147 sets of twins. Consequently, Inverclyde maintains its status as the council area with the most twins in schools. The district, often dubbed ‘Twinverclyde’, had its highest twin enrollment in 2015 with 19 sets. The current year stands as the second highest.
Of this year’s intake, 15 of the 17 sets assembled at St Patrick’s Primary in Greenock for a preliminary uniform try-out. St. Patrick’s and Ardgowan Primary will each welcome three sets of twins in their P1 classes.
Depute provost Graeme Brooks stated, “Inverclyde, or ‘Twinverclyde’, has an annual tradition of ushering in twins to primary one.” He remarked on the anticipation for the upcoming term, noting the joy of seeing students in their uniforms. The practice event, he said, was not just for the children but also served as a light-hearted occasion for parents.
Brooks praised the quality of schools in Inverclyde, highlighting the recent renovations, especially St Patrick’s, which reopened in 2016 after a reconstruction funded by the council’s £250 million investment in school infrastructure.
