Instagram’s most popular feature, Reels, can also be one of its most overwhelming. Users often find themselves scrolling through an endless loop of trending short videos tailored to their past activity.
Now, Instagram aims to fix that frustration with a new tool called “Your Algorithm.” The feature allows users in the United States to customise their Reels feed and gain more control over the content they see.
To access the setting, users can tap a new icon in the top-right corner of the Reels tab. The icon looks like two horizontal lines with a heart. Once opened, it displays the topics Instagram’s AI believes match the user’s interests. From this panel, users can add topics they want more of or remove topics they no longer find relevant. As users adjust their selections, their Reels feed updates accordingly. Instagram also allows users to share their customised algorithm through their Story.

Instagram says the goal is to strengthen user control, especially as tastes and interests evolve. The company noted that it aims to provide users with more meaningful tools to manage their experience on the platform.

Currently, “Your Algorithm” is available only to U.S. users and in English. Instagram plans to expand the feature to more regions and languages soon. Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, recently confirmed that two additional languages will be supported in the near future. Users seeking early access to new tools are encouraged to keep their apps up to date.

The release of this customisation feature comes as reports suggest Instagram is increasingly using AI to improve Reels ranking and discoverability. With AI now shaping how videos appear in search and feeds, Instagram aims to balance automation with user-driven control.
