Meta is expanding its social apps, and Instagram’s Community Chats could be the next step.
Uncovered by code sleuth Alessandro Paluzzi on March 6, 2025, this feature is still a prototype, promises group chats for up to 250 users, echoing Telegram and Discord vibes. It’s a bold step to make Instagram a one-stop hub for content and conversation.
Community chats will let users message and mingle in open groups, but they are not free for all. Creators can appoint admins to keep things tidy, deleting rule-breaking posts or booting troublemakers per Instagram’s guidelines.
#Meta is apparently planning to turn #Instagram into an even buzzier platform with a new community conversation feature similar to Telegram and Discord. https://t.co/dgBKFaUd4L

Meta’s also watching, though how it’ll handle off-track chats remains fuzzy. Creators can only lock chats to approved users and hype them on profiles or broadcast channels, blending exclusivity with reach.
Unlike broadcast channels where creators post updates, polls, and pics, but fans can’t reply, Instagram Community Chats flip the script. Users can share their content, making it a livelier sandbox than the one-way street of today’s setup. It’s not Instagram’s only test run; a dislike button for comments popped up recently too. But this chat feature could redefine how creators and fans connect. The Instagram Community Chats hint at Meta’s big dreams but moderation’s the catch.
