The Green Shirts were defeated by India by six runs in a close World Cup Group A match at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Despite a strong start from Pakistan’s bowlers, who held India to 119, their batting fell short, ending at 113-7. Jasprit Bumrah starred for India, taking three wickets, including a crucial one from Mohammad Rizwan, who top-scored for Pakistan with 31.
India’s innings concluded at 119 all out in 19 overs, with notable performances by Pakistani bowlers Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, each taking three wickets. The Indian side struggled, but Bumrah’s bowling at critical moments turned the game in India’s favour.
Despite early wickets from Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi, which removed key Indian batsmen, Pakistan failed to build significant partnerships. Key dismissals included Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim, who could not contribute substantially.
The match concluded with Pakistan at 113-7, with Bumrah claiming three wickets. Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar Patel also contributed to the success of Indian bowling.
Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers dominated, but India’s lower order, led by Bumrah and supported by a quick succession of wickets from Amir and Rauf, stabilised their innings momentarily. The effort was insufficient to set a high target but proved sufficient against Pakistan’s struggling batsmen.
