India beat Pakistan in a high-stakes T20 World Cup match by 61 runs on Sunday, securing qualification for the next round. The much-anticipated encounter went ahead after uncertainty earlier in the week and delivered a dominant performance from India.
Suryakumar Yadav’s side posted 175-7 after a blazing start from Ishan Kishan, who scored a brilliant 77. In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs, extending their difficult record against India in World Cups.
India has now won eight of nine T20 World Cup meetings and all eight ODI World Cup encounters between the two rivals.

India’s innings was built around Kishan’s aggressive stroke play. After Abhishek Sharma fell early, Kishan counterattacked, reaching his half-century off just 27 balls with two sixes and seven fours.
He dominated the powerplay and continued to find boundaries all around the ground. By the time he was bowled by spinner Saim Ayub, he had scored 77 out of India’s 88-2 in 8.4 overs. His knock included three sixes and 10 fours.

Pakistan managed to slow the scoring in the middle overs. Ayub finished with 3-25 from four overs, removing Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya in quick succession. However, Suryakumar added 32 off 29 balls, while Shivam Dube contributed 27 before being run out in the final over.
Chasing 176, Pakistan’s reply faltered immediately. Sahibzada Farhan fell for a duck in the first over, followed by Saim Ayub and captain Salman Agha. At 13-3, the pressure mounted.
When Axar Patel bowled Babar Azam for five, Pakistan slumped to 34-4 inside five overs. Usman Khan offered resistance with 44 from 34 balls, striking one six and six fours. Yet his dismissal triggered a collapse, leaving Pakistan at 78-7 and effectively ending the contest.

India’s bowlers maintained discipline throughout. Jasprit Bumrah struck early, while Axar and the spin attack tightened control in the middle overs.
Off the field, tension was evident as the captains did not shake hands at the toss. The match itself was confirmed only days earlier, after political uncertainty. The two teams meet exclusively in multi-national tournaments at neutral venues under existing agreements.
With this result, India moves confidently into the next stage of the tournament. Pakistan, meanwhile, faces renewed questions about its record against its fiercest rivals.
