Given the dearth of music videos in the industry, the promise of ‘Sajna’ by Uzair Jaswal was welcome news for fans. Groovy and upbeat, ‘Sajna’ features Bin Roye actress Armeena Khan, Osman Khalid Butt and of course the man himself, Uzair Jaswal among others.
While the lyrics and music are Uzair’s, the video, set in the ‘good old times’, is creatively directed by his elder brother Yasir Jaswal whose directorial debut film Jalebi came out a few months ago.

Kicking off with a goofy Uzair delivering pizza to Osman, the video follows the tried-and-tested formula of different amusing scenes on television, which are viewed by a very puzzled Osman.
The spotlight nevertheless i on Armeena who looks completely different from how she appears in Pakistani dramas and her desi avatar in Bin Roye. She wears a funky top and headgear and has curled her long hair for a retro look.

Reminiscent of Grease the musical, Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and Dracula, the song is just another ode by a lover who is trying to woo his beloved. The song is very different from Uzair’s previous ‘Bolay’ and the mix of Punjabi with Urdu makes it a fun listen.

Although the video does bear some semblance to Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’ featuring Bruno Mars, it is hip and makes a statement that retro is the new cool.
As for now the song and video are being well-received by listeners:
