Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has called an emergency meeting today with senior party leaders to hash out the ruling given by the election tribunal on Monday and brainstorm fresh strategy in the evolved situation.
It should be mentioned here that an election tribunal (ET) yesterday ordered re-election in Lahore’s NA-125 and PP-155 constituencies after finding valid proofs of rigging in the constituencies during the 2013 general elections.
According to the PTI’s press release, the meeting will take place this evening to discuss the judicial commission and NA-122. Imran Khan will chair this important meeting.
The senior PTI leaders will bring into discussion the preparations regarding the elections this year.
Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club yesterday evening, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, who was unseated by the ET, claimed that they were being penalized for the failures of their returning and presiding officers.
Rafique vowed to challenge the tribunal’s verdict adding that it was not vindicated that the elections had been rigged.
Expressing displeasure with the ET ruling, Rafique bristled, “Out of 265 polling stations, only 15 polling stations were scrutinized but electoral irregularities were found in just seven.”
He said his party is waiting for the official notification of the tribunal’s judgment.
Expressing delight over ET tribunal, Imran Khan demanded Judicial Commission to constitute special teams to investigate the last general elections for the future of Pakistan. He attributed the development to his party’s 126-day sit-in and enduring fight for transparency.
“All parties have pointed to rigging in the last general election and I endorse Aitzaz Ahsan’s stance that proof can be found in polling bags,” he said.
