Pakistan senior journalist and columnist Ansar Abbasi proposed that If Imran Khan can master two crucial behaviours, improvements might follow for his party, which has faced numerous challenges over the past year and a half.
As per Abbasi, first, Khan must choose his words carefully, avoiding anger or provocation in his public statements. They should be thoughtful and measured rather than impulsive and inflammatory. Second, Khan must manage his party’s use of social media responsibly. This platform should not be used to spread propaganda, lies, hate, or unwarranted accusations.
However, Khan’s likelihood of adopting these changes seems slim. The difficulties facing him and his party will likely continue without such adjustments. The aggressive tone on PTI’s social media, particularly the attacks on the current Army Chief, indicates that these platforms are used more for settling scores than fostering constructive political dialogue.
The strategy complicates Khan’s political landscape and perpetuates a cycle of negativity that could lead to further instability within Pakistan. The essential question is whether this approach will lead to the transformative change some of Khan’s followers hope for or push the country into deeper chaos.
Despite these issues, Khan remains a highly popular figure in Pakistan, seemingly unaffected by scandals. His followers’ fierce loyalty is something his political opponents and the establishment cannot overlook. Yet, continued attacks on the military establishment could alienate significant segments of society and hinder any chances of reconciliation or political stability.
Figures like former President Dr. Arif Alvi have advocated for a more conciliatory approach, emphasizing the need for negotiation and compromise, particularly with the military, which continues to be a central power broker in Pakistan.
It is uncertain whether Khan and the PTI can alter their tactics to encourage a more constructive political environment.
